When Summer Newman breaks some unexpected news to Daniel Romalotti Jr., he’ll be taken aback. The revelation that Phyllis is still alive seems to be the bombshell that Summer plans to dump on him. At first, he didn’t believe Summer when she said Phyllis was alive and well.
He assumed that Summer had not fully recovered from the loss of their mother. Plus, Summer hasn’t exactly done an outstanding job of explaining what went down. Her statements conveyed the appearance that she was protecting herself from her feelings of distress by resorting to wishful thinking and false ideas.
To better understand Summer’s mental health, Daniel chose to discuss the issues with Kyle Abbott and other important individuals in her life. It’s easy to picture Daniel telling Kyle his concerns about Summer’s refusal to accept Phyllis’s death.

Summer may realize at some point that she needs to fill Daniel in on what’s going on. Otherwise, he’ll only make matters worse for Phyllis, who is already in over her head. Summer is afraid that someone will put together her tale with Daniel’s help and try to commit her, even though she does not require mental health care.
In light of this new information, Summer may decide to have another confrontation with Daniel and make a more in-depth confession. Summer will come clean about her emotions and try a different approach. Perhaps her calm justification will persuade Daniel that he is not imagining things.
This is what happened when Phyllis told Summer to keep the news to herself when they met at the park. Summer could utilize the early disclosure of Jeremy’s official cause of death to convince her brother. Her mother defended herself by digging her nails into Jeremy’s face and turning the scissors on him. Possibly after Summer tells Daniel what happened to Jeremy, Chance will update him about Jeremy’s death and the way he died.
But once Summer gets Daniel thinking about this seriously, maybe even less convincing proof will do. Daniel is aware of what Phyllis is capable of; in fact, he once saw a person who looked just like Phyllis at a memorial. He could recall that Phyllis attended her funeral if he took a trip down memory lane.
If Summer goes through with her planned second confession, Daniel may have good reason to examine it more closely. And by that time, he might start to accept Summer’s account of their mother’s survival. Showing the same incident over and over again will certainly be boring for the viewer, which will also make them believe that this time Daniel might see the truth in Summer’s second confession.
