Summer Newman feels as if she will break under the burden of keeping her secret. The longer she keeps Kyle Abbott in the dark about this sensitive circumstance, the more stress she will be under. She is imprisoned and can’t think straight because she feels so guilty about not telling the truth.
Daniel Romalotti Jr., in an admirable attempt to save Summer from her suffering, comes forward and says that he saw Phyllis Summers instead. Unfortunately, Summer is still without the relief he so badly wants, despite his wonderful effort.
The issues keep coming up, eating away at her peace of mind. Summer still holds onto another terrible secret: she knew the truth before everyone else and let Diane Jenkins suffer in ignorance. She shakes at the very idea of Kyle finding out all of her lies.
Summer leaves Phyllis with many voicemails throughout the week of May 22. Her messages are urgent pleas for her mother’s presence and understanding. Summer’s life is completely unraveling, and she needs her mother now more than ever.
Phyllis hears her daughter’s misery via the lines. Phyllis returns incognito in black clothes, a hat, and spectacles to comfort Summer. She wants to hide for a secret meeting with her daughter.

However, Phyllis’s meeting spot is surprising. Phyllis is cautious, but her love for her daughter overcomes her worry. Summer and Phyllis meet in the darkness behind locked doors to speak the truth. Summer tearfully apologizes for confiding in Daniel, whose treachery broke her confidence and revealed Phyllis’s survival secret. She confesses her falsehoods, especially the masks she wears with Kyle, and her emotions run high.
Phyllis feels a deep sense of sorrow for her daughter since she knows how heavy a burden she bears. Phyllis is sympathetic, but she still warns against coming out because of the possible implications. Nonetheless, a promise is made between mother and daughter, a joint determination to solve the problem.
Phyllis may cautiously give a timeline for her triumphant return, promising to retake her position in their life once a solution is found to liberate her from her shadows.
Summer is relieved to be reunited with her mother, but her feeling of calm is disrupted by some disturbing news. There are rumblings that the police are getting closer to uncovering Phyllis’s underhanded dealings. There’s a dark cloud above, and it seems like it may drop a storm on their already shaky union.
Will Summer and Phyllis be able to ride out the storm together and come out stronger, or will the increasing pressure cause them to reveal their secrets, leaving them open to the potential consequences? Their intertwined fates hang in the balance, and only time will tell what will happen next.
